“Family is not an important thing.
It’s everything.”
— Michael J. Fox
Every family is different — and your portraits should feel that way. I blend natural expressions with gentle direction to capture real connection: the smiles, the energy, and the personality that make your family yours.
Kids get to be themselves, parents can relax, and I’ll guide you through simple, comfortable posing from start to finish. The goal is warm, genuine images that feel true to your story — timeless portraits you’ll be proud to return to for years.
Outdoor Family Portraits
Outdoor sessions are great if you like clean, modern images with a relaxed feel. We choose a simple spot around Halifax or Nova Scotia—a park, the coastline, or a quiet street—with a good background and not too many distractions. When natural light isn’t enough or is too harsh, I add soft off‑camera flash to balance it, so skin tones look even and the photos feel polished, not “flashy.”
At‑Home Family Portraits
At‑home sessions are perfect for families with little kids, newborns, or anyone who wants photos that feel personal. I use the best window light in your home and add either off‑camera flash or continuous light if the room is too dark. We’ll quickly walk through the space together and pick a spot with enough room for both your family and the lights, so the portraits look intentional and three‑dimensional, not like quick phone snapshots.
Generational & Reunion Portraits
These sessions are made for big families, visiting grandparents, and long‑awaited reunions. Before we start, we plan the key groupings: everyone together, grandparents with grandkids, siblings, and smaller family units. I bring lighting that can handle larger groups—usually a simple off‑camera setup—so everyone is evenly lit and the final portraits feel classic, organized, and ready to print big for the wall.
Maternity Portraits
Maternity sessions are all about calm, confident portraits before baby arrives. We can shoot at home or outdoors, with simple styling and gentle posing so you never feel over‑posed or uncomfortable. Light is a big part of the look: I combine soft natural light with off‑camera flash when needed, to shape the bump, flatter the figure, and keep colors warm and natural.
Lifestyle Newborn + Family (In‑Home)
This is a calm, at‑home session with no complicated posing or props. Baby stays in your arms, on your bed, or wrapped in a favourite blanket while I photograph the little details and the way you hold each other. I use window light first and add a very soft, diffused artificial light only when needed, so it’s gentle on baby’s eyes but still gives clean, professional results. We do need a bit of open space in the room for the light and camera distance, but the mood stays quiet, slow, and baby‑led.
Mini Sessions & Holiday Portraits
Mini sessions are short, focused shoots on select dates—perfect when you want updated photos without a full session. I use a simple, pre‑planned lighting setup (outdoors or indoors), so we can move quickly while still keeping everything consistent and flattering. In fall and around the holidays, these sessions are ideal for cards, gifts, and refreshing the family gallery on your walls.
01
Book Your Session
Fill out the booking form and I’ll get back to you to confirm your spot. Together we’ll pick a day and time that work best for your family, and I’ll share a few easy tips on what to wear and how to get ready.
02
Consultation & Planning
We’ll chat about your family, location options, and the vibe you’d like for your photos. I can suggest favourite spots around Halifax or plan a session at your home, so on the day you know exactly where we’re meeting and what to expect.
03
Photoshoot Day
On the day of the session I’ll gently guide you into simple poses and give small prompts, then step back to catch the real moments in between. Your job is just to be together and enjoy the time; mine is to handle the light, composition, and keeping everything calm and easy.
04
Editing & Selection
After the session I go through all the images and keep the strongest ones. You’ll receive an online gallery where you can pick your favourites for final editing—colour work and light retouching—and then, if you’d like, you can order prints or a photo book.
When is the best time for a session?
We recommend mornings or golden hour for soft, flattering natural light.
In some cases, we also shoot during the day depending on weather conditions — especially since we work with off-camera flash and can control the light creatively.
Winter studio sessions are available at any convenient time with advance booking and studio availability.
What should I wear?
📌 Best clothing choices:
✅ Neutral tones — beige, gray, white, pastels, khaki, olive.
✅ Solid colors and clean textures — they photograph beautifully.
✅ Well-fitted clothes that let you move naturally.
✅ Minimal accessories for classic or business portraits.
❌ What to avoid:
🚫 Large logos or busy patterns that distract in photos.
🚫 Shiny or reflective fabrics — they create glare, especially with flash.
🚫 Anything uncomfortable — if you don’t feel good in it, it shows.
How many people can join the session?
Up to 6 people are included in the base package.
Each additional person: +$25.
Can we bring our pet?
Yes! Pets are welcome for outdoor sessions.
Studio sessions with pets are possible by arrangement (+$25 cleaning and setup fee).
